Yesterday morning, Stevo and I were on our way to work in the late Bainmobile when the car suddenly lost power. This was my first clue that something was not right!
Unfortunately, the place at which we had lost power was one of the busiest roads in the whole of Manchester, the Mancunian Way, and worst of all, we were quickly approaching the worst part of rush-hour. So I pointed the car at the side of the road and managed to stop safely. When I called the RAC they decided we were a bit of a priority and sent somebody round after an hour or so. I guessed it was probably the cam belt and the nice RAC man confirmed it when he arrived.
You may ask yourself, how could one belt in a car, cause the car to be written off? Well the cam belt is the bit of the engine which times the pistons and the valves. It keeps the two from ever meeting during the working of the engine, however when it breaks, the pistons whack into the valves and your engine is screwed!
It could have been a lot worse thought, I’m just glad it happened somewhere we could get to the side of the road and not on a motorway!
