StudentBlogs.co.uk – my new aggregator

A couple of years ago I bought the domain name studentblogs.co.uk with the intent of creating a aggregator for Manchester students, however this was about the same time Manchester Blogger started, so I thought it was better to just go with that.

The domain has sat there gathering dust, so I thought I’d finally put it to use and aggregate some of my friends blogs! An aggregator basically compiles the blog posts from loads of blogs into one pages, making it easier to keep up to date with what everybody is doing!

The current Blogroll is: My: paulbain.co.uk Matt’s: One Eye Open , Adam’s: Evil Fish Adam , Katharine’s: To See or Not to See , Baggy’s: baggy.org.uk

Check it out at studentblogs.co.uk

I Killed My Credit Cards!

Dead Cards

I have been meaning to get rid of my little compilation of credit-cards for a while, and today I finally got round to killing them off.

I don’t really know why I had them in the first place. I know egg and Morgan Stanley offered cash back on everything you spent but that would only be useful if I had any money!

Actually canceling the cards was easy enough, I just called the customer service number written on the back of each and asked to cancel. None of them really made any attempt to get me to stay. All of them told me to destroy the cards, but egg was the only one to say to cut up the chip, I thought that might be a good idea to do to all of them.

Fair Trade UK Milk – Update

Coffee CupA while ago I wrote about the unfair milk prices in the UK in a post titled “Milk, It’s down to the Consumer” and I’d thought I’d update you on some of what has been going on.

The National Farmers’ Union released an update last week talking about what they have been doing. Milk prices are certainly high on their agenda, and I’m guessing it is a fairly popular topic. One of the things they stress in their update, is that a major problem preventing fairer milk prices is getting the consumer to pay the extra cost. It is, of course, a vicious circle; vendors will not increase the price of milk in fear that consumers will not pay the extra price and loyalty will be lost and the consumer will not pay the extra, because this option is largely unavailable.

Unfortunately, milk does not apply to be a Fairtrade product, as Fairtrade is about making trade fair for developing nations. Apparently its just competition when industries in a developed nation are treated unfairly. It’s obvious to me, we need a fair trade label for domestic industries, I guess similar to a kite-mark, however representing fairness rather than quality!
