Nokia 6600, 6600i and 3600 iSync Plugins

Here is area few iSync plugins I have written for Nokia Phones:

To install:

  1. Unzip to your desktop
  2. Open up finder and go to your Home Folder -> Library
  3. If the folder PhonePlugins (no space) doesn’t exist, create it
  4. Copy Nokia-6600-Slide.phoneplugin to the PhonePlugins folder
  5. Restart iSync then add a device

  1. Hi Paul

We’ve got a Nokia 6600 f1 and an iMac running 10.6.2 The plugin lets the them see each other and partially sync, but no phone numbers?? Can you help??

    Best Ian

  2. Paul

Someone who had a plug-in from you for a Nokia 6600 suggested I contact you re. Nokia/Mac sync problems. I’ve recently got hold of a 6220, but the Nokia-supplied software fails on an ‘error 208′ all the time, at least on USB (don’t have Bluetooth on this Mac).

Have you done anything with the 6220?

    Best wishes

  3. Hi.

Thanks for the 6600i Slide plugin.

    Works like a charm.

But for those who will download that plugin: you should restart your system in order to use the plugin. Otherwise iSync will still say that it is incompatible to sync.

  4. Hi,
Like many others I had a few problems with syncing the company and also the notes. I managed to resolve it by tinkering around. Not sure if this is the best way of doing it or not but for future reference, this is what I did.

Backup the file Nokia-6600i-Slide.phoneplugin and also the Address book data beforehand just in case.

    Right click on Nokia-6600i-Slide.phoneplugin
    and select Show Package Contents
In the new Finder window that opens open the Contents folder and then the Resources folder.

Open the file MetaClasses.plist in TextEdit
Search for “needsCompanyNameInFirstName”. The line below this reads:
Change this to and save and close the file.

Open the file PhoneConduit.plist in TextEdit
    Search for “com.apple.contacts.Contact”
Add new “notes” section below this so that the text now reads….

    company name

    maxLength
    500

    first name

    maxLength
    500

    last name

    maxLength
    500

    notes

    charsToStrip

    maxLength
    126

    Save and close the file.

Open the file SyncEngine.plist in TextEdit
    Search for the text “com.apple.contacts.Contact”.
Add a line containing “notes” so that this section now reads:
    com.apple.contacts.Contact

    com.apple.syncservices.RecordEntityName
    last name
    company name
    first name
    notes
    email addresses
    phone numbers
    URLs
    street addresses

    Save and close the file.

Close the finder window that shows the contents of Nokia-6600i-Slide.phoneplugin
Use this file to install as per Paul Bain’s instructions. I restarted the Mac after this (not sure if this is necessary).

I had to remove all my contacts on my phone and sync again so that all the new contacts were re-inserted otherwise you may get parsing errors.

For some reason updates to the notes would not sync without removing the contact and re-inserting them but that’s a minor bug.

  5. (relates to my last comment)
iSync says: »couldn’t find the plugin for this phone« – it says it in german in my case, so the tranlation might be a little different.

  6. Hi Paul,

I´m using an iMac Intel Core 2 duo, Mac OS X 10.6.2 and a Nokia 6600i slide. With your software, I could synchronize ical and adressbook some times and were happy. But now I can´t.

When I try to sync, it stops at 55% everytime. On the phone comes the message:
“Data transfer not possible. Check data connection.”
and the following message appears on iSync:
There was an error getting data from the phone.

Do you know what to do?

    Many thanks,

    Heinz

  7. Hi Paul,

download your Nokia 3600 Slide iSync Plugin today and install it on Mac OS X 10.6.2 (10C540) works very fine.

Only first isync with Nokia 3600 Slide fails. But after a second sync everything works great.

    THANKS

    Best regards
    Frank

  8. Thank you for the software for iSyncing a Nokia 6600i slide with Mac OSX 10.5.8
It worked well the first few times, but now it stops: always at the same places…! With the contacts after 89%, and with the calendar after 85 of 370 pieces of information. Have you any idea why this might be, and what the remedy is? I would be very grateful for any help and advice

  9. I have the same problem as many others with my 6600i slide. It works sometimes but is just too unstable. It seems that it has problems with some types of calendar entries or if there are too many contacts or entries.

  10. Yes Johannes, it is a problem of many.
I tried almost every trick to fix that, but unsuccessfully. I even rewrote the plugin, changing more than one parameter.
I think it is a device limit. Probably a new firmware would fix that, but I can’t see any commitment from Nokia on such device model issue.

  11. Hi. I have a Nokia 6600 Slide and downloaded your plugin for iSync.
Still doesn’t work. iSync still says “This device is not supported by iSync”

Is there anything I can do to get to the reason for this?

  12. Hey,
thanks for the 6600i plugin. It worked perfect. I was already quite frustrated that my beloved mac was not able to sync my new mobile.

    Many thanks.

    Matthias

  13. Anyone know what settings/switches to change in the plugin to sync *only* phone numbers for the 6600i slide? (And not street address, emails, etc.).

I’m having a heck of a time stopping iSync from mucking up my address book since Nokia only supports one address field (and converts it to “other” on my Address Book) each sync.

  14. Paul,

Hopefully you may have an answer for me.

The Asst. Man. at AT&T assured me that the Nokia 6750 “Mural” that I just picked up would sync via BlueTooth with my Mac (OSX 10.5.8). It doesn’t. At least not via iSync or any other method I have tried. And the Nokia tech support says it will not via their software.

Any plugin, etc. that I can use?

Thanks for any help with this.

I have been on this since 9:00am when AT&T first opened and it is now after 3:00pm.

    Regards,

    Ron Lanham

  15. Warning… be VERY careful of this plugin.
I give the author credit for trying and recognize that he said there may be bugs so use at your own risk.
In my specific case… it deleted LOTS of my computer’s Address Book information. Yes… on my computer. And I had already backed up my two backups before I realized it.
Now I am having to use other various sources to re-enter all of the lost information.
So… be extremely careful with this plugin.

  16. I’m brad new to Macs and was disappointed that my Nokia 6600i slide wouldn’t sync. Imagine my delight when I found your solution, Paul. Very many thanks.

  17. hi Paul,
i just bought the nokia 6600i through my phone company – of all the standart cell phones they offer their costumers to buy at this time, this is the only model which supports mac software, according to apple’s website. Or to be specific, apple lists “6600″ as a supported model. Perhaps the missing “i” is of importance, since, after trying to sync up my mac and new phone, I learned that this model is, in fact, NOT supported by iSync. Your software saved my day. Thanks a million!

  18. I still haven’t been able to find a plugin for my Nokia 6750 ‘Mural.’
How in the h_ll can a company that’s so large be so lame?
The best I came across was an alpha-homemade-version that partially whacked both my Address Book and cell.
I know this is probably a rhetorical question but… anyone know of a truly stable, working plugin for my cell?
    Thanks.

  19. Experience with Nokia 6600i Slide plugin.

Quite simply. Doesn’t work. iSync tells me it “cannot connect to this device”.

Since others report success, I must be doing something wrong. Is there someone who can talk me through it out there?

  20. After years of being a Nokia supporter, I finally caved and got an iPhone4. Finding that iSync would not connect to my 6600 slide only served to reassure me that I had made the right choice.
Thank you SO MUCH for writing this plugin.

  21. Waw, thank you very much for this plugin. It works great. Both Calendar and Address book sync flawless.

Just one question is there a way to sync images in Address Book? If it is not possible, no prob, but if it is something you could point out how to do it, it would be very welcome!

    Many thanks from Belgium!

  22. Hi Paul, I am sure you’ve done a great job. But I can’t get it to work on my Mac OSX 10.5.8, which will not connect via iSync 3.0.2 to my Nokia 6600 Slide with the help of the plugin, installed as indicated. For some reason it is not detected, then iSync turns to the bluetooth connection screen. I want it to hook up via USB though. Any idea? It is driving me crazy!!

    Thanks Paul

  23. Nokia 6600 Fold Sync.

Thanks so much Paul – able to transfer my wife’s address book from old phone to new 6600 birthday present via iSync and Address book with your plug-in. Problem solved. I thank God for people like you who solve problems like this and help others out.

FYI for anybody having iSync issues: I had initial trouble with txing only addresses with phone numbers (iSync Options), until I set Address Book prefs to same display as the phone – in our case, ordering the addresses by First Name.

Recommend that people also first back up their Address Book via Archive function before using iSync; I nearly wiped the Address Book after deleting the names on the phone and then syncing after that. Fortunately I was able to cancel the sync when I noticed it was preparing to delete Address Book records to match the then empty phone database.

    Thanks again Paul. Regards David

  24. Like everyone else I’m delighted with the plugin. However, in recent weeks I’ve started getting duplicates of some appointments whenever I sync. Does anyone know the cause or have a solution?

    Thanks.

  25. I’m going to pile on too. The 3600 Slide Plugin works great for me. I just created the PhonePlugins folder and chucked the plugin in and it works a treat. I’m running OSX 10.6.4.

    Thanks a million.

  26. I have the 3600 Slide. I copied the Plugin to:
isync.app/contents/plugins/ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice/contents/plugins. On this Place works the plugin on 10.6.4 very well.

  27. I have a 6600 fold, it starts off, ok, transfers 59 calendar entries then freezes and I get this message:
There was an error getting data from the phone. The synchronization may have been canceled on the phone.
Device “Nokia 6600 fold” synchronization failed.
