Operation Canine – It Has Begun

Today at Senokian we stared Operation Canine which can only be describe as an ambitious but highly achievable project whereby in 3 days we will write a enterprise level web application with integration for telephony and setup everything you would need in order to start a business.

Three days really isn’t much time to:

  • write a web application
  • create a product website
  • create a marketing blog
  • setup hosting
  • setup a business…

Writing a web application in itself is a massive task, however we are sticking to what we know and the K.I.S.S. method.

Wanted – Film Review

[imdb Wanted]

Wanted is an awesome film starring Angelina Jolie, James McAvoy and Morgan Freeman. It’s about Wesley (James McAvoy) – a frustrated office worker who is bullied by their boss, whose girlfriend is cheating on him with his best friend and who suffers regular panic attacks.

After meting Fox (Angelina Jolie) he discovers he is actually the son of a master assassin with the ability to bend bullets which I’m sure would be a useful skill to have! Imagine, you could turn on the kettle while watching TV in the next room… and probably some other stuff.

The action is awesome with some Matrix-esque scenes and touches of Bourne. There are some great comedy moments such as Wesley smacking someone with this ergonomic keyboard… oh and watch out for exploding rats!

95 DVDs and Counting

Currently my DVD collection is up to 95 which may not be large by some peoples standards however it’s a start!

While looking through the films I have reviewed so far on this blog I realised that I have only reviewed ones watched at the cinema. I’m therefore going to start working my way through each of the 95 DVDs and trying to write reviews for each of them. I might have to skip a few such as “Hustle & Flow” just because they are a load of cr*p.

Zopa – Experimental Investment

Zopa is a social lending platform enabling people to lend and borrow from each other. Some people would say this sounds a bit risky, however Zopa credit checks applicants using the same methods banks use and looking at their statistics, they have a very low rate of bad debt (0.16%).

Zopa members also have the opportunity to define how risky or how safe they want their loans to be by selecting the length (36 or 60 months) and the percentage interest rate.

Setting a higher rate will yield higher returns but is less likely to be accepted by borrowers. Moreover, the higher the interest rate the higher the risk the debt will become bad.

Lenders can also select a risk level ranging from A* which is extremely good, to Young which has the highest risk. As the risk increases so does the reward however as you are generally able to gain a higher rate of interest.

Initially I am only investing £100 over a period of 36 months making the funds available in maximum chunks of £10 to A*, A and B credit categories. I chose particularly competitive rates of interest in the aim to secure borrowers as quickly as possible.

Above is an overview of my current position, and by offering competitive rates 80% of the funds are in the process of being lent.

One of the things I find particularly interesting about this process is that as borrowers repay debt on a monthly basis the funds are credited to your account and you can automatically reinvest this capital, further increasing the potential for interest.

Check back in a month for my first update of how its going.

Natural Born Footballer? Not So Much!

I have been playing football once a week for just over a month now and I have realised something; I’m no footballer!

I have to say – it is quite good fun and definitely a good workout, however unlike most people there I wasn’t brought up on football but instead rugby. I haven’t the understanding or the love of the game and therefore the confidence to really be any good.

When I moved back to Coventry I was thinking about starting playing rugby again but I was nowhere near fit enough and as I had the opportunity to play football I thought it was a good way to play a team game while getting a bit fitter.

Now I am getting fitter (and not getting any better at football) I’m starting to consider playing rugby again, so in a couple of weeks I’ll make a decision after seeing how the gym goes but for now I’ll keep trying to keep up!

I’ve Finally Joined the Gym!

esporta.jpg

Yesterday I finally took the plunge and joined the gym. It isn’t as if I haven’t been exercising as I run most days, play squash at least once a week and play football (badly) on a Tuesday evening. However I haven’t really been getting the results I expected and as the mornings are getting darker and wetter I thought taking exercise to the next level might be a good idea.

My sister joined The Warwickshire Health & Racquets Club a few months ago and we were both members when we were juniors so knowing it is an excellent gym it seemed like the logical choice. Chris also joined last week which will hopefully mean I’ll go more frequently as I’ll have two gym buddies.

After joining yesterday I managed to book a gym induction for Today and I have to say – it was awesome. During the session my personal trainer put me through my paces with interval training and time really goes quickly exercising that way! Also the personal trainer told me I need to eat way more protein so now I have an excuse to eat meat with every meal! Result!
