Transporter 3 – Film Review

[imdb Transporter 3]

Transporter 3 staring Jason Statham was probably the worst out of the trilogy. That being said, it was still an extremely entertaining film with some great action scenes and the odd moment of comedy genius.

The basic plot is that Frank Martin – “The Transporter” is forced to drive a package to an unknown destination guided only by GPS coordinates given by the criminal mastermind controlling the whole situation. With an explosive bracelet locked to his wrist, Frank is unable to get further than 75ft away from his car without being blown to pieces.

Frank is accompanied by Valentina (Natalya Rudakova), a Ukrainian who is also accessorised with an explosive bracelet and provides the majority of comedy moments particularly when asking Frank in a Borat-esq way; “are you the gay?”.

I’m a big fan of the Transformer series and if you are looking for a fun, entertaining and easy to watch movie – this would be a good choice!

The Incredible Hulk – Film Review

[imdb the incredible hulk]

This is a seriously good film and possibly one of the most enjoyable I have seen this year.

Staring Ed Norton and Liv Tyler it follows the story of a Dr. Bruce Banner who is exposed to a seriously high level of gamma radiation causing him to turn into an incredibly awesome monster who likes to smash stuff – what could be better?!

The acting is at a really high level throughout the film and they managed to get a good balance with the amount of special effects.

It’s worth mentioning that this is not a squeal to the atrocious 2003 film HULK which was licensed to bunch of muppets who created a rather poor attempt at a film.

Anyway, this film (The Incredible Hulk) is worth owning and 100% worth watching.

Rambo – Film Review

[imdb Rambo]

Rambo staring Sylvester Stallone as John Rambo is an awesome action film which took very little concentration to watch. That might sound like a strange reason to like a film but I think it’s a good one.

This film was definitely a piece of action genius, however it made some pitiful attempts to include political opinion and even more questionable moral values suggesting as it’s OK to kill sometimes, “When you’re pushed, killing’s as easy as breathing” (Sin City reference?) and “Live for nothing, or die for something. Your call”.

Anyway, I’m glad I bought it – particularly because it was part of 3 for £10 at blockbuster! It’s one to watch.

Wanted – Film Review

[imdb Wanted]

Wanted is an awesome film starring Angelina Jolie, James McAvoy and Morgan Freeman. It’s about Wesley (James McAvoy) – a frustrated office worker who is bullied by their boss, whose girlfriend is cheating on him with his best friend and who suffers regular panic attacks.

After meting Fox (Angelina Jolie) he discovers he is actually the son of a master assassin with the ability to bend bullets which I’m sure would be a useful skill to have! Imagine, you could turn on the kettle while watching TV in the next room… and probably some other stuff.

The action is awesome with some Matrix-esque scenes and touches of Bourne. There are some great comedy moments such as Wesley smacking someone with this ergonomic keyboard… oh and watch out for exploding rats!

95 DVDs and Counting

Currently my DVD collection is up to 95 which may not be large by some peoples standards however it’s a start!

While looking through the films I have reviewed so far on this blog I realised that I have only reviewed ones watched at the cinema. I’m therefore going to start working my way through each of the 95 DVDs and trying to write reviews for each of them. I might have to skip a few such as “Hustle & Flow” just because they are a load of cr*p.

The Strangers – Film Review (spoiler warning)

[imdb:the strangers]

This is almost certainly the worst film I have seen in weeks!

The basic story: people go to house, nasty people pop up as if from nowhere as soon as the music calms down for the first time in 10 minutes. People eventually get killed in the last minute of the film.

Sorry if I ruined the story for you, however to be honest I’m doing you a favour.

Hellboy II – The Golden Army – Film Review

[imdb:hellboy II]

I saw this with Chris on Sunday morning and I have to say, it was awesome. Well it was awesome compared to the first one!

Basically there is a golden army controlled by a load of elves who decide to take over the world… who are controlled buy a golden crown which controls them… and Hellboy has to destroy it to save the world. Oh and there was a walking tree type thing. Nothing like any other story, possibly in three parts… .

Anyway, it was enjoyable and was a much better way of spending Sunday am/pm than being incredibly hungover.

Kung Fu Panda! – Film Review

[imdb Kung Fu Panda]

Kung Fu Panda was simply awesome! It was entertaining all the way through and not due to innuendo found in films like Shrek, but because it was genuinely amusing!

The animated Jack Black aka Panda was a brilliant character. The film also had an underlying ‘feel good’ plot which was combined with a moral and socially relevant scenario as Panda was quite obviously an orphan as his father was a duck!

Well worth the watch!

Iron Man – Film Review

[imdb:iron man]I am a big fan of Marvel films and Iron Man was no exception! I had heard some reviews of the film weren’t that positive so I expected the worse and fortunately it was great!

Robert Downey Jr was definitely the right man for the role of Stark and it was nice to see Gwyneth Paltrow back in film!

In summary, go see it!
